Traveling tunes

I have been meaning to post a link to The B52’s Roam video, mainly for the benefit of my parents, who probably have never heard this song:

I especially like the lyric, “roam if you want to, roam around the world, roam if you want to, without anything but the love we feel.”

I was thinking about my parents and Nik’s and how great it is that they took us on foreign adventures when we were growing up.  My parents took my sister and me (and then later bankrolled a fab trip) to Europe and West Africa.  Those are great memories, even though our first Europe trip fell in the unfortunate time of our sullen teen-dom.  I actually do remember being sullen, but also what great things we saw and experienced.  Thank you, Maryann and Mike!  Nik’s family spent 3 years in Singapore, with various trips to surrounding exotic spots.  After our little monthlong adventure, I have a sense of how their 3-year stint had to have contributed to their being such a tight family.  Thank you, Pat and Hank!

One more video... here is Joni Mitchell singing California, one if my favorites, which we listened to on my iPhone  while “sitting in a park in Paris, France” by the Eiffel Tower.  We changed the lyrics to “I bought a ticket, I caught a train to Spain”, and I guess we should have been singing about Oregon, but at that point we were not really ready to come home anyway.

  1. Wonderful blog! It was fun travelling along with you all. I am impressed with how you managed to accomodate everyone's interests, needs, and appetites! Now that the travel dust is washed away, I would love to know from each of you: What was the most beautiful thing you saw? What was the tastiest thing you ate? What was the most fun site to visit? What would you like to go back to again? Cheers! Francesca
